Join Ladders of Opportunity
ready to take ON your career goals?
Follow these four steps from Parent Mentor to Ladders of Opportunity to employment in a school setting
You can qualify for roles such as: Special Education Classroom Assistant (SECA); Teacher/Classroom Assistant; Language Aide; Instructional Aide; Substitute Teacher; SECA Substitute, and/or Paraprofessional Substitute.
Achieve your goals
Hundreds of parent mentors have used Ladders of Opportunity to achieve their personal goals. From talking with Ladders participants here are three things we’ve heard from many that you can expect to experience when you decide to join us:
You can do it. Many participants start off nervous about whether they’ll be able to achieve their goals. Have no fear! You can do this.
You’ve already achieved a lot. Volunteering in a classroom for 100 hours—one of the requirements for Ladders—teaches a lot of what you need to know to achieve the next step.
Ladders of Opportunity runs on trust. We often hear that principals or schools hired Parent Mentors specifically because of the relationships they had already built. This program will not only help you achieve a credential, it can be a way to grow the relationships that will help you to find work.
Do it for yourself, for your family, and your community. We hear from Ladders participants that taking this step has had an impact beyond their own career.
Are you ready?
Do you have a genuine desire to continue working in a school setting with students, as a career? Do you want to start working more closely with a teacher to make sure all students are successful academically and emotionally?
Do you have ONE of the following qualifications or are you ready to obtain the qualifications for a paraprofessional position?
High school Diploma/GED OR an Associates Degree (or higher) OR 60 College Credit Hours from an accredited university (degrees and college credits can be from the US and/or your country of origin)?
Have you completed 100-200 hours or more of the Parent Mentor Program?
Are you eligible to work in the U.S.?
Are you a current or past (alumni) participant of the PMP?
If you responded YES to all the questions above, contact your coordinator to discuss your goal and fill out a screener together. If you responded NO to any of the questions above, talk to your Coordinator or Organizer to discuss next steps.
